While I'm still riding my lace high, I thought I would apply my new technique to my favorite crafting item:
The cell phone case.
We all know I have an unhealthy obsession with adding my crafty hand to electronic devices. So why stop now? I won't. You can't make me.
And also, I am doing a service to you (your taste, really). See, if the glitter cell phone case wasn't your style, nor the studded cell phone case, NOR the embroidered cell phone case, then I have a hunch this one must be right up your alley. If not, well then, you are quite the picky person. Maybe next time I will paint sports balls all over a phone case. JUST KIDDING. I would never do that.
1. A small piece of lace fabric from the Spandex Fabric Store on 37th between 6th and 7th.
2. Spray paint in black and gold from the Home Depot.
3. Painter's tape from Blick.
4. A cell phone case from a guy on Canal Street.
5. A piece of foam core. Mine is an old scrap but you can buy some at any art or craft store.
6. Newsprint paper from Blick. Old newspaper works too.
Take two pieces of Newsprint paper and tape them together with painter's tape. The goal is to have a working surface MUCH larger than the phone case to protect your floor, or table, or desk, or wherever you do your crafty work.
Lola just wanted to be a part of things.
Spray paint your phone case black and let dry completely.
If you bought a black case to begin with, you can skip this step. I can't be much of a choser when shopping in China Town. So I mend my navy metallic case and make do.
Tape off the edges of the case with painter's tape.
Bring the newsprint paper over the piece of foam core.
Place the phone case on top of the newsprint and foam core. Then lay the lace over the phone case.
Use push pins to pull the lace taught over the phone case. (This is why the whole contraption is over foam core.)
Spray paint over the lace with the gold spray paint.
Remove the lace and let the case dry.
I have the most elegant phone case there ever was:
Just sayin'. It's pretty fancy.
HOLY MOTHER OF LACE.
I put these up on Etsy!!! There are two available for purchase! Count 'em. One, two.
BUT, I am, as always, overjoyed to take your custom order. Maybe black and gold aint yo' colors. I got yo' back! E-me!
