DIY Hardware Necklace

Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal!
Your gift this year is two DIY posts in one week. (I know I'm like 2 weeks early, but 'tis the season... right? Plus, Hannukah is happening RIGHT NOW, so...)
Remember the days when I had the time and ability to post 5 times a week?! Old times were good times.
But new times aren't so bad. I mean... I have a life these days, and that's pretty cool. Definitely not mad about that.

Last time we met, I told you about my adventures in the Home Depot. I failed to mention that in addition to plumbing parts, I also purchased some small pieces of hardware that caught my eye. Yes, sometimes hardware catches my eye. No, I do not think this is peculiar, hardware jewelry is in and I'm on the train.
Get with it, guys.

I used one variety of such items to create this radsicle geometric necklace:
(Can we make 'radsicle' a thing? Please?!)
Ya, I know. It looks good.

And, ya, that is a nebulae backdrop. I got this excellent book at The Strand called 'Far Out: A Space and Time Chronicle' and now it is my favorite thing in the entire world ever. It's a coffee table book featuring images of all the nebulae and it makes me so super happy. Let me describe how I feel when I open this book using a rage face:
Ya, it's like that.

DIY Rhinestone Cat-eye Sunglasses

Hi, friends. Sorry about being all absent and shit. I was tending to really important things. Like my social life...

GET OFF ME, BRO!
It's only been a week... ish. And a fun one at that. Also, advanced apologies BUT don't expect too much goodness next week. It's a holiday weekend and I plan to celebrate. On a boat. Tooooooooooot.
Got to get that sun while it's out. Winter is coming....

On that note, I made some bomb-ass-fantastic rhinestone sunnies:

What's more?! The inspiration for this craft came from a photograph in a MAGANIZE. Not even a digital magazine. One with real pages. That I turned with my phalanges. WHOA.
(Let's also take a moment to appreciate my awesome use of 'phalanges' in the previous sentence.)
I even took a digital photograph of my physical magazine inspiration:
I think this was from NYLON, but I can't be sure because I ripped this page out months ago. (Can you say 'HOARDERRRRR!') The original mag is hopefully in a recycling facility somewhere, if the recycling bins at my work place are in fact recycling bins, and not just regular trash bins disguised in green to make us employees stop bitching about killing all the trees.

Regardless of the origin of the above image, or the whereabouts of my work-week paper waste, I made my own version of the above awesome sunnies. And you can too.

DIY Spiked Sneakers

Another day, another craft. Except this one is AWESOME
I know I say that all the time, but I really mean it.

SEE:
I may have a semi-serious shoe addiction. But, hey, recognition is the first step to recovery. And in the meantime, my feet look damn good
Despite the fact that another pair of shoes is probably the last think I need, these turned out bangin' and I loved wearing them out on the town. Got loads of compliments and boogied so hard I lost a few spikes. (All spike suicides were mourned and then, when enough time had passed, replaced with new spikes.)

DIY Bow Earrings

Welp. It's Monday. And I'm still recovering from Saturday night.
Yeahsies. Bring on the coffee.

In epically awesome news:
I have so much to share!! Sadly, I have spent so much time making shit, that I haven't had any time to photograph or write. But you should only know about all of the awesome DIY tutorials coming your way. I'm pretty much using this blog as an excuse to make my perfect fall wardrobe. Get excited. It's gonna be t-shirt heaven for the next few weeks. Cause who doesn't love a good t-shirt?!
"Awesome t-shirts suck!" said no one ever.

Anyways, in the mean-time-in-between-time, I made these adorably precious earrings:
In really super sad news, I have developed an intolerance to anything but sterling silver and gold in my ears.
FUCK.
Who wants these? Cause however adorably precious, my ears are too delicate.
Womp, womp.

DIY Simple Bracelet

Hey, dudes.
I know it's been like forever. I have been neglecting you, and that's definitely not cool. But, ya know, it's summer and the beach beckons. You should only know about how blond and tan I am.

Despite my magnetic attraction to the outdoors, I have been still making some great shit. I had been feeling a bit creatively deflated for a little while, but I'm excited to announce I had a rush of inspiration last night. I could barely sleep I was so excited to make so many things. You best believe that I will be supply shopping this weekend. So much for saving all the moneys...

Confession: I made these little ditties here well over a month ago and never got around to posting. BLOGGER FAIL. But better late than never, is what I, and all other procrastinators, say.

A simple and chic addition to your arm party:

Neon and Metallic Bracelets

Calling all arm parties! I have an easy addition to your... party.
Check out this neon and metallic dream on my wrist:
(Also check out my vacation-bronzed skin tones. NBD)
It's like everything I love in the world coming together. (Neon and metallic, duh.)
...I do recognize at this point that I need to work on my "things I love" category.

Here's the kicker, I can't even begin to describe how easy these were to make.
Oh.... wait... I can. Mostly because that's what I do. On this blog. Sometimes the pieces just fall into place, ya know what I mean?

Metallic Hair Bow

You guys. I am having a moment with metallic silver. It all started with these docs. Then this bag. And finally, with the help of an amazing sale and free shipping promotion, these shoes. So, when I saw silver pleather trim at M&J I knew it had to be mine.

Obviously, I made a metallic hair bow. Because that's just the kind of shit I do.

It's all very 'space-age'. Pretty soon I'll be walking around in head to toe metallic. Kind of like this:
Yeah, that's me.
You know you want a piece.

Styled by Tori Spelling

Hidey ho, crafterinos!
I'm back.

I have been super excited to share today's post with all y'all. The lovely team at Styled by Tori Spelling sent me copious amounts of ultra-rad DIY jewelry supplies:
DIY HEAVEN MY FRIENDS. DIY HEAVEN.
Above are the boho and noir collections. Thanks Tori!!

The pieces can be mixed and match to create endless necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Check this out:

It's a crafty revolution.
I decided to take one of the Styled by Tori Spelling pieces and mix it with my own materials to make something new. Cha-ching.

Ladies and... ladies. I made this pretty pretty hand-piece with a Styled by Tori noir necklace bottom:

Spiked Sunnies

Memorial day weekend is upon us and that means two things:
1. 4 day weekend. WHAT WHATTTTT! (Thank you, work place, for the extra day off. I love you.)
2. I will be hiding from the sun while simulaneously basking in it. That means SPF 80 (true sotry), big hats, and SUNNIES

I also intend to scare away any potential conversation with this violent pair:
Who wouldn't want studs for eyebrows?!
And yes, I am pretending that I'm British and calling them 'Sunnies.' If you don't like it, you can leave! (Except please stay. Please. I love you.

I feel very lady gaga about these. I can so see her wearing a much more intense version. It's all very "ra-ra-ah-ah-ah ga-ga-oh-la-la," if you know what I mean.

DIY Anya Hindmarch Wallet

I fancy this wallet:
I fancy it bad.
[via]

If I made boat loads of money, I would have bought myself this wallet before it was sold out.
I don't make boat loads of money. So I didn't buy if before it was sold out.
So I made my own.

Check it.
This is what dreams are made of.

Is anyone else singing the Lizzie McGuire song in their head?
Here's a hint for everyone who is totally lost right now:
Hey, now! Hey, now! This is what dreaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmssssssss are made of!
This is poetry, my friends. Poetry.
I make fun, but I'm 100% listening to this right now. On repeat.
This is why I'm single.

Virtual Shoe DIY

Good news. I have some supa-fly crafty tutorials coming your way this week. (Think studded hearts and metallic silver.) I am also participating in a focus group and getting a crispy 100 dolla bill for my input. All that money is going directly to M&J, where I plan to replenish my very hungry craft closet.

In other fun news, I found this pretty rad site where you can custom design a pair of shoes! It's virtual DIY. No fuss, no muss (and no mess). The only issue is that the product is hella expensive. I suppose 280 dollars is the price we pay for custom-made shit.

I designed a sleek white snake skin wedge:
I don't know. Lately I am obsessed with wearing solid black, white, and metallic silver. I can't stop. I won't stop.
And I actually 100% know why. I follow the lovely Ivania Carpio of Love Aesthetic and her style is rubbing off on me. Loves it.

So what shoe would you virtually DIY? Clicky clicky here to get designin'.

Friday Flashback: The Best of Electronic Crafting

Ladies and  Gents men-that-only-read-this-because-you-are-my-dad. I have to admit, my crafty productivity has been low. And I feel bad about this. Real bad. I can give you a bunch of excuses (trying to be good at le desk job, currently too poor to buy supplies, a bit creatively drained, introducing exercise back into my life, trying to maintain my social life) but I know ultimately I have simply been depriving you of crafty goodness and my excuses are no substitute for glitter and glue.

I don't have anything new and fresh to offer today (don't worry - I have some MAJOR crafty plans this weekend) In the meantime-in-between-time I would like to take a look back at some rad projects from the archives. I was self-stalking le blog and found some lost treasures. I miss these projects. I miss them bad.

Come join me on a journey through our glittery past, with a concentration on electronic crafting. These are my personal faves, but if you click on the "Electronics" button up top, you can see all of my gloriously glittery electronic devises.

Without further ado,
Of all my crafty cases, this is my case of choice. My  cellular telephone wears it. All day, every day.
(Oh, hai Lola. You is one pretty bitch.)

Not gonna lie, this little ditty put me on the craft blogger map. Thank you, lace. You are so pretty. Everyone loves you.

It is my expert opinion that these lovely sound makers are underrated. They deserver some love. I mean, look at them.

Glitter Computer Case
I love having glitter all over my computer case. It's one of the only items that allows so much glittery surface space. Plus, people are totes jealz when they see my computer. And you know what, I don't blame them.

That wraps up my 'Friday Flashback'. Or we can call it 'Friday Favorites'. I prefer 'Flashback.' but that's just me.
Hearts and sunshine and flowers and kittens and rainbows.
GO DANCE.

Bow Crafting: Rope Bow Necklace

A couple of months ago I bought the totally rad product that is Martha Stewart Fabric Stiffener.
Until now, I had never used it.
Until now.

You all know what a kick I get out of making shit with materials from The Home Depot. This amusement stems from my Jewish let's-call-the-handyman-to-hang-this-painting mentality. I feel super savvy for my ability to navigate The Home Depot, a skill that is not actually a skill at all. You can only imagine how psyched I was when I made this freaking adorable bow necklace using some rope I had bought at the home depot a few months before.

Yeahsies.

Asos Lightening Bolt Earrings

I have taken a several month break from shopping. Why? Because I'm a broke-ass lady and I need to learn how to conserve my cash.

Then my tax return happened and I was all like "HOLY MOTHER OF MOSES, FREE MONEYS. BUY EVERYTHING." Consequently, I have spent many hours over the past week on the internet carefully selecting my loot.

Truthfully, I wanted to get these sweet-ass 3.1 Phillip Lim shoes. I was so excited when Saks announced a 20% off sale. Then I read the terms and conditions (which no one really reads). Mother fuckers excluded 3.1 Philip Lim from the sale. In my head, I was prepared to spend 4-5 precious hundies on the shoes. But without the discount, plus tax and shipping, the shoes were like 700 big ones. Too much, Phillip. Too, too much.

Point of the story, I really never had any business buying designer shoes. In good news, I got lots of smaller fun things for a fraction of the cost!
How this relates to today's craft: it does not.
I just miss talking to you. Sue me.

In my scouring of the eCommerce world I found these sweet ass earrings:

These are hot. Save your 30 dollars for future 3.1 Phillip Lim shoes and make them.

And make them I did:

Not too shabby, right?!
Another fun craft that have received many several a few two compliments.

Hammered Metal Necklace

Hey, fools. I made a really awesome necklace:

Truth is, it's pretty hard to photograph the awesomeness. It looks so rad on my bod, but I didn't have a chance/avaiable amigo to photograph me. So use your imagination and picture this necklace, on my neck, looking superb.

Free People Inspired Head Band

This is a post for my flower children. I have been lusting after all the Coachella pictures on the internertz. And by lusting I mean, I have been totes jeals.

So I made a lil' flower child headband to commemorate my jealousy.

I pulled some flower-power inspiration from the freeps. (That's short for Free People. I know the lingo 'cause I worked there in college.)

When I smile pretty I'm just like the models, rightttttttttt!?
No.
But a girl can dream.

Chain Crafting Part 5: Chain Headband

I hope everyone had a faaaaaaabulous holiday weekend. How funsies was it that Passover and Easter fell on the same weekend. So festive.
My holiday was superb. Ninja-mom made the most delicious meal whilst still avoiding all those non-kosher-for-Passover foods that make life so good. (eh-ehm bread.) I also went to the New York Botanical Gardens which was just b-e-a-utiful.

In other news, I am craving a slice of pizza.

In crafty news, I made a chain and ribbon headband.
Check out this mint and gold dream:

Flower Bead: Kapow!

Back in the day when I was dicking around studying abroad in Tel Aviv, I found myself volunteering as an arts and crafts teacher to new immigrant kiddies.

Wait. WAIT. I totally already told you this story, like, wayyyyy back in the day. (In digital time, four months is basically a life time.) I have neither the interest nor the energy to retype that shit up.

The only additional bit of information I feel the need to share you might want is that when I learned the awesome ‘sushi roll’ fimo technique, I maybe went a little bead happy. I made so many beads. And then I made bracelets. And then I gave them to all of my best ladies as "I'll-miss-you-when-we-aren't-all-abroad-together" gifts. And then I came home and made more beads, and more bracelets, and then I sold them for boat loads of money. Then school got busy and I had to take a step away from the fimo beads. But I still have like 50 bracelets lying around my apt. I will photograph them and put on etsy shortly. I say that like it’s something that I’m actually gonna do. We’ll see. We’ll. see.

Fast forward to now. Ima teach you bitches how to make my sacred fimo bead. Put your seatbelt on, we’re about to embrak on a wild ride.
(Why, why do I say shit like that? The thing is, I have the power to delete that line, but I choose not to. I choose not to.)

Chain Crafting Part 4: Double Chain Necklace

Guess what? It's Friday. Put on your booty shakin' pants and grab a cocktail.
It's the freaking weekend baby, I'm about to have me some fun.
My plans for the weekend are to play drunk board games with my ladies while watching Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion. LIVIN' LARGE.
(This is why I'm single.)

Fun fact: I woke up at 6 am this morning due to sunlight and also dehydration from all of the vodka I drank last night. After chugging two galsses of water, I did some early morning crafting.
Yeah. I crafted at 6 am. I think I crossed the line that separated the crafting from hobby to addiction. Everyone has their vice. I'll take crafts over crack any day. Know why? Crack is whack.

Due to my general lack of motor skills before 8 am, I made a simple lil' ditty. (Simple, yet awesome.) I would be lying if I told you that my besty didn't make a similar version of this a few weeks back. Whatever. They were MY supplies...
(Thanks for the idea, Keighty!)
